Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is OpinionEditorials.com?
A. OpinionEditorials.com (also OpEds.com) is the only online editorial page that publishes op-eds from writers of all levels and backgrounds – from seasoned columnists to everyday Americans – on a wide variety of topics. By providing an alternative to the bureaucratic red tape that causes all but 1% of newspaper submissions to be rejected, OpEds.com has become the only resource for what “the rest of America is saying.” As for online opinion pages, we’re the only website that does not collect membership fees or maintain cumbersome membership requirements.
Q. Who runs OpinionEditorials.com?
A. Frontiers of Freedom Institute. Founded in 1995 by United States Senator Malcolm Wallop of Wyoming (ret.), Frontiers of Freedom Institute is a cutting-edge, forward-looking think tank advancing center-right principles in today's fast-paced news and information age. We are dedicated to protecting the constitutional, economic, political, and legal freedoms of every American by upholding and restoring the principles of the Constitution and the Founders’ belief that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” For more information visit www.ff.org
Q. What is the Quill Pen Ten?
A. The “Quill Pen Ten” is a weekly e-newsletter that highlights OpEds.com’s top ten most interesting, and sometimes most controversial, submissions of the week. Sent to our distribution list every weekend, the “Quill Pen Ten” gives us a chance to recognize our most thought-provoking writers and showcase their best work to policymakers, lawmakers, and members of our grassroots network.
Q. What is an Opinion Editorial?
A. An Opinion Editorial, or op-ed, is an article based on the writers view of a particular political, public policy, or cultural issue. Typically op-eds are 500-750 words in length.
Q. Does Frontiers of Freedom Institute operate any other websites?
A. Yes. Frontiers of Freedom Institute operates two breakthrough opinion and news websites — OpinionEditorials.com and SpinFreeNews.com. SpinFreeNews.com is one-stop-shopping for daily news about lawsuit abuse, energy, the environment, and other topics that too often end up on the cutting room floor of traditional media trying to stay competitive in today’s 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week news cycle. In addition to providing daily news, SpinFreeNews.com features an “Outrage of the Day” and an original comic. Unlike other news websites, we communicate regularly with our grassroots network to find out what is happening outside the beltway. Some of our most popular stories come from tips from everyday people. To send a tip about a story you would like to see on SpinFreeNews.com, please send a news link to
tips@spinfreenews.com.
Q. Who funds Frontiers of Freedom Institute and OpEds.com?
A. People like you! We rely solely on the generosity of people like you to provide our breakthrough forum for what “the rest of America” is saying about important public policy issues and matters of public concern. As a research and educational organization operating under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code, all contributions to the Institute are tax-deductible. We do not accept government funding. To make a contribution, please contact Kimberly Martin at kmartin@ff.org.
Q. Can anyone submit an op-ed? If so, how?
A. Yes, writers of all backgrounds and skill levels can submit their opinions to
opeds@opeds.com. We do not discriminate based on content. We publish opinions daily from seasoned columnists, college students, homemakers, and everyday Americans. For a more detailed explanation, please visit our
submissions page.
Q. Do you pay for submissions?
A. Only in very rare circumstances does OpinionEditorials.com pay for the right to publish articles.
Q. Do you print articles that have been published elsewhere?
A. Yes. Our writers enjoy the added exposure of being published in the traditional media and on OpEds.com. Please let us know whether your article has previously appeared elsewhere and requires attribution to another publication.
Q. What is the difference between "Featured Writers," "Guest Writers," and "Freedom Writers?"
A. "Featured Writers" contribute on a regular basis and are chosen based on several factors at the sole discretion of the Editor and staff of Frontiers of Freedom Institute.
"Guest Writers" are those with longstanding relationships with Frontiers of Freedom Institute and whose work has appeared in other publications.
"Freedom Writers" consist of the vast majority of all submissions. These are writers from all walks of life and of all ages whose passion and zeal for their issue of interest led them to OpinionEditorials.com. Many of the most insightful and unique perspectives are written by our "Freedom Writers."
Q. Can I take any of these articles and use them for commercial purposes?
A. No. The articles remain the property of their respective authors. For reprint permission you must contact the author.
Q. Is my op-ed guaranteed to be published?
A. OpinionEditorials.com reserves the right to reject
any op-ed deemed slanderous, unduly inflammatory, blatantly inaccurate, or
for any other reason.
