Amusing Musings: A Letter to Congress

Donald R. Schuman, Jr.

I have sent the following letter to my United States Congresswoman Carol Maloney as well as my two United States Senators, Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton. If you are tired of our do nothing congress and their approach to oil drilling, I suggest you do the same. Unfortunately, complaining among ourselves has little impact, however giving our elected officials an earful will.

It gets very tiresome and tedious to hear the Democratic talking points against drilling for oil, whether it is “off shore” or in ANWAR. When you speak of 68 million acres open to”off shore drilling” that oil companies are not pursuing, no statement could be any more disingenuous. The oils companies like to drill where there is oil. The leases, while under exploration, do not have the promise of other areas in which drilling should be allowed. However, you know that! I am also beyond tired of hearing that there is land open to drilling in Alaska, but not being used. That area has been open to anyone in the world for drilling since 1925 and no one has, because it is simply not worth it. Again, you know all this and still play politics with your constituent’s national security as well as their wallets. You should be ashamed of yourself. I find it morally repulsive every time I hear that the oil will not get to us for at least 10 or more years. More lies and everyone knows it. We can have oil within a year or two. If you are so concerned that something will not be available for ten years or more, then I can safely assume that you will be voting for the dismantling of Social Security. I didn't think so, but I digress. A vote for drilling will have an immediate impact on the price of oil. President Bush lifted the executive moratorium on “off shore drilling” and the price immediately went down. However, I learned a long time ago that the Democrats will always put their quest for power far ahead of what is best for the nation, hence you and your out of touch party have no shame. I and 75% of my fellow Americans find your position untenable at best, treasonous at worst. The saddest thing is that you and your congressional cohorts have it in your power to lower oil prices, but refuse because of the environmental lobby. Talk about kowtowing to special interest groups! You and your party are always worried about how we are viewed on the world stage. Well, here is your chance to be a big shot and appease the rest of the world, by drilling and therefore lowering the global cost of oil. I don't expect you to do this for Americans, but hopefully I can appeal to your sense of “Global Citizenry” in what would be best for the planet, since Batwoman Pelosi is on a one woman rampage to “save it”. I implore you to have Empress Pelosi bring an “up or down vote” to the floor of congress and I would expect that you will put the “will of the people” ahead of your own party’s quest to only satisfy the most radical and leftwing fringe elements of your party, by voting Aye to drilling!!! I can only hope that during the next five weeks of your many vacations that you come to your senses. I know this might be a novel idea to you, but maybe just once you can act like a Patriot!! Who knows, you might actually like it?
Regards,
Donald R. Schuman, Jr.
