Leave it to the wacky feminists.  First, they defend Andrea Yates, the Houston mother who drowned her five children in what they deem to be justifiable homicide in the course of post-partum depression.  Now, the gals at NOW have decided that the charges against Scott Peterson for the murder of his pre-born son, Connor, are unfair.

It is getting to the point where it would seem that the only children that the NOW women care about are in the line of fire in a foreign country.

In an article with the Daily Record, Morris County, NJ NOW President Mavra Stark said, "If this is murder, well, then any time a late-term fetus is aborted, they could call it murder."

Yes, Mavra, that is what we have been saying all along.

Now I suppose that at eight months pregnant, I'm not the most unbiased spokesperson on the subject, but the characteristics of pregnancy are truly foremost in my everyday existence.  For not being a "living human being" in Mavra's opinion, this baby of mine sure does a whale of a tap dance on my bladder, ribs or any other organ he seems to come in contact with.

And have you ever seen a pregnant belly jiggle when the baby, er, fetus has hiccups?  Not to mention the tidal waves that roll across the stomach when mommy indulges in Mexican food. 

But seemingly, Mavra and her ilk don't seem to understand that this really is a living being.  This baby has very human feelings and responds to light, a lukewarm bath, my oldest son's giggles and my husband's rendition of "Green Eggs and Ham" at bedtime.  You cannot be pregnant, feel this little life move inside you of its own will on an hourly basis and decide that it has no more value than gas bubbles percolating in your stomach.

If I were to give birth today at 33 weeks gestation, my son would be whisked away to the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit to be hooked up to life sustaining machines until he could breathe, etc. on his own.  But for now, I am that life sustaining machine who is providing nutrients and oxygen and all those good things for him to thrive.

Last week when I started having pre-term labor contractions, I went to the hospital to be monitored.  I was sent home with the orders to go on bed rest for the next few weeks to avoid a premature birth.  Why?  While medical science could certainly care for my son with a terrific outcome at 33 weeks, it is preferable to have him remain right where he is, gestating away.

So let's take this a step further, shall we?  If Laci Peterson had gone into labor in her 8th month and her baby had temporarily resided in a NICU and Scott Peterson had gone into the NICU and switched off the ventilator, the baby would have been considered a murder victim, correct?  It makes zero sense that a baby at 33 weeks gestation inside the womb has fewer rights than a baby born at 33 weeks gestation in a NICU, and yet that is what we have to believe to buy into this wacky argument.  

When my first son was born, a day or so later a very good family friend came by to see our little bundle of joy.  She was avidly pro-abortion.  My husband handed her our son Patrick saying, "You know, the feminists say that 48 hours ago, you could have partially delivered him, stuck an ice pick in the back of his head and sucked his brains out and it would be perfectly legal."  On the spot, our friend became avidly pro-life.

As the trial of Scott Peterson gets underway, I dare Mavra and her feminist pals at NOW to look in the horrified eyes of Laci's parents and try to take away Connor's humanity. Perhaps Mavra and her friends need this kind of wake up call to truly hear what the pro-life contingent has been saying for years.
