My wife and I enjoyed a bowl of ice cream this evening as we watched our favorite prime time programming. As the news came on, we were given a quick update on the current controversy surrounding Utah County, a visit from Michael Moore.
Michael is scheduled to speak at a local college campus in a few days, and as conservative as Utah is, it has created quite a stir. The news station rolled tape of his speech tonight at a wild, sold-out crowd at an Arizona campus, and my first thought was – that poor man… his movie didn’t even make enough money for him to get a decent haircut and shave, or a new sweat suit. Then they said something about his speaking tour being called the “Slackers Unite Tour” or something like that. Gotcha.
Apparently Mr. Moore is only scheduled to speak in swing states, where he might be able to score some more voters for the Kerry ticket. So why stop in the largely Republican state of Utah? To do some “missionary work” as he put it, with a grin on his face. He said they kept asking him and asking him, and he just felt so sorry for the lonely Kerry supporters, that he had to come. For them. So they wouldn’t feel so alone in the world.
So it turns out that this Michael Moore fellow really is a thoughtful, caring and compassionate soul. Or was it really just about the $40,000 check he will receive for a couple hours of his time? Dang. That’s more money then I’ve ever made in an entire year.
