Nancy Pelosi and the Culture of Leftist Comparisons

Lee Ellis

Many voters received in the mail a letter from Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. The letter starts off with "Do you really want to be told the truth?" She adds, "You will never get the truth from George W. Bush or the Republican leadership of the House or Senate. But you will from me."

This is followed by four paragraphs of propaganda, all starting with the words, "The Truth:" Here is a quick summary of each "truthful" paragraph:

1. "59 million Americans voted against Bush’s four years of failure." But ---"He is still acting like he has a mandate to pass his dangerous and ill-conceived agenda."

2. "Tom Delay and his congressional allies are taking political corruption to new lows. Tom Delay is now under indictment on criminal charges."

3. "President Bush continues to tell the American people that the war in Iraq is going well, even though the body count continues to rise…"

4. " It is with irresponsible tax giveaways …that President Bush has turned a record surplus into a record deficit…"

My open reply to Senator Pelosi is as follows:

Dear Congresswoman Pelosi:

Thank you for your letter to me and my friends asking if we wanted to be told the truth.

As a former combat veteran, now with service-connected disabilities, thanks to two South Pacific invasions, I looked forward to your being honest with us, as your opening line suggested.

I was shocked to read the vicious lies and malicious propaganda used. I trust that these were not your words, but those of a staff member or consultant who writes fund-raising letters for you. Such writers should be dismissed for harming your good name.

Checking your letter one by one:

Truth 1: We are a Republic, not a Democracy. The majority of our Republic, via the Electoral College rules of a true Republic, voted for four years of success in President Bush’s fight to protect us against the Middle East attacks, something that previous administrations had failed to do.

Truth 2: Tom Delay has not been convicted of anything, An indictment is simply an accusation. Even President Clinton had been accused of many things. If you were to count all the members of previous administrations who had been accused of malfeasance, one might say that the Democrat culture of corruption was more prevalent in the past than in the present! The judge has just denied a conspiracy charge against Tom Delay and the Democrat prosecuting attorney is still being accused of prosecutorial misconduct.

Truth 3: One does not judge victory or defeat by a body count. If this were the case, WWII and other wars would have been declared as our failures. More Americans are murdered each year in California than have been killed in Iraq during the entire war! According to the report "Crime in California 2004," compiled by California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, there were 2,394 reported homicides in the Golden State. That compares with 905 deaths of coalition forces in Iraq, chiefly Americans and Brits, during the same time period.

Truth 4: The Bush tax cuts have increased our economy and cut unemployment. Many veterans have gained benefits, not lost them. Our government has no money. It operates only on the money gained from its people through taxation. Such dollars are then redistributed to those to whom the government owes. This Bush administration believes in lower taxes while your political allies want higher taxation for more redistribution of our money. Our deficit is caused by two things —- a necessary war and a loss of the line item veto as ruled by a legislative Supreme court. To correct this, a new Bush Court is necessary to appoint only Constitutional judges, not legislative ones.

For a large number of Democrats and Independents to vote for a Democrat Congress, you need to align yourself with the views of people like Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller. Remember that a great Democrat and Union leader was Ronald Reagan. He became a Republican only after the Socialists began to move in on his party.

There is a smell of treason in the air as too many politicians give the terrorists hope and encouragement that Americans have lost their will and prefer to appease rather than to remain strong.

al Jazeera hangs on to every word of the American Far Left as it gives out its "Hate Bush" and "anti-war messages" to all in the Middle East, knowing this will defeat democracy, defeat the spread of freedom in the Middle East and cause Iraqi citizens to lose hope in the continued support of a brave America.

I hope that you have the courage to fire all your speech-writers and restore your good name by bringing in pro-freedom, pro-strength, and pro-America staff people.

Sincerely,

Lee Ellis
