Which Candidate Will Win the Presidency in 2008?

Lee Ellis

As a Conservative Republican all my life, I have been watching all the Republican debates and the candidates' appearances on various news programs. While I have not made a personal decision yet as to who is the best of all these candidates, the temptation, of course, is to go with the most conservative one.

However, I am resisting this temptation, right now. Why? Because I firmly believe that today's generations, which were a majority of voters in the election of 2006 and a majority that will even increase in the coming 2008 one, will base their decisions on what they will have viewed on television, nothing else. These views will also be echoed on the Internet, as the George Soros money is spent on more and more leftist blogs attacking all Republicans. While it is nice to have a leader of our own base nominated, it is much more important to make sure that we have a winner in 2008.

So, I am looking for an acceptable candidate who can do the following:

1. Can outdo and outmaneuver the opposition candidate on television debates

2. Can genuinely communicate to the electorate via TV

3. While on various television interviews, he or she will have the ability to immediately and accurately answer the questions without stammering or stuttering and without the usual spin.

4. Can appear on TV looking presidential as well as youthful, with a winning demeanor.

5. Can articulate very well his or her's party's philosophy whenever appearing on TV

The candidate (Republican or Democrat) who can do all of these five the best will be the next President of the United States! If we do not recognize this now, we may be very sorry again in 2008!

After watching all of the candidates carefully, I am now leaning towards the candidate who reminds me most of the winning methods used by Ronald Reagan on television when he ran for governor of California and when he first ran for the presidency. That candidate, so far, is --- Mitt Romney.

Before you mention the Mormon issue, we have to remember the arguments used against JFK during the 1960 convention. Politics and a winning personality overrode the religious issue then; it will do the same in 2008.

Remember, too, that the Clinton family has the money, media and dirty tricks to win a campaign. Unlike France, the media and many women here in the United States are anxious to see the first female president. They cannot accept the fact that Britain, and other nations, have had women as Prime Ministers or Presidents long before the United States could do so.

If we nominate a candidate who pleases only our small base, our country can very well elect a socialist-liberal for the next eight years! Not only can this cost us our Republic along with its Electoral College, it can also bankrupt this nation and weaken our defense so that we will also face a possible takeover by the Islamic fascists. How many sleeper cells, like those men just arrested in New Jersey, do we need to find before American citizens wake up to the fact that the terrorists are bent on having suicide terrorist bombers active here in the United States to injure and kill innocent men, women and children on our main streets?

What happens to our nation and our children and their children will be dependent on what we Republicans do now and what the majority of voters will do in 2008. No election has ever been as important, or will ever be again, as this coming one. To win, we shall have to add many independents to our base as well as a lot of Democrats.

I, along with many other seniors, will not be here to witness the far-away future of America that we will have allowed to start happening in 2008. But, let us not allow the returning veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan to wonder about their future and what happened to their America for which they had fought so bravely. Let these veterans and all future generations enjoy the freedom of this great Republic as we and past generations have done.

I am NOT saying that Mitt Romney is the answer. There may be another candidate (or two) ready to emerge who possesses all these five qualities that will enable him or her to compete successfully against Senator Clinton, or even Senator Obama. All I am saying is that we must be sure that we have a positive winner and leader to steer our country back to the right of center --- and that we must please more than just our base or our personal selves to accomplish this.
